The origin of ballet

Ballet originated in Italy during the Renaissance.

Origin and Development Context
Origin of Ballet: In the 15th century during the Renaissance, Italian nobles developed a performance form that combined music, dance and drama called "Balletto" during court celebrations. This was the earliest form of ballet. At that time, in Italian city-states such as Ferrara, dance masters began to create dance works with standardized movements for the courts.

France's Development: In the mid-16th century, when the Italian noblewoman Catherine de Medici married into the French royal family, she introduced this art form to France. In 1661, Louis XIV established the Royal Dance Academy, which established the five basic foot positions and twelve hand positions of ballet, completing the systematization of the technique.

The peak of Russia: In the late 19th century, ballet reached its golden age in Russia. Works such as "Swan Lake" and "Sleeping Beauty" were created, forming a distinctive Russian school.

Language verification: Although the word "ballet" originated from the French word "ballet", its root actually comes from the Italian word "balletto" (meaning dancing).

Artistic DNA: From the humanist aesthetics of Italy to the court etiquette norms of France, and then to the dramatic expressions of Russia, ballet has always maintained the core characteristics of European classical art.
